Breaking News, Latest News, Highlights Of March 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was holding marathon poll rallies across southern states in an attempt to expand the BJP’s footprint in the region. As part of the outreach measure, PM Modi conducted public meetings in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu and Karnataka’s Shivamogga before arriving in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore to hold a roadshow in the city. Meanwhile, the removal of IPS officer Rajeev Kumar as the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal by the Election Commission triggered a war of words between the state’s ruling TMC and the BJP. Kumar’s removal came as part of a wider directive removing top officials of various state governments from their posts in an attempt to conduct free and fair elections. In Bihar, the BJP announced the seat-sharing formula in the state for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. As part of the seat-sharing pact, the BJP will contest 17 of the 40 parliamentary seats across the state, while the JD(U) will field candidates for 16 constituencies. Moreover, the Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has been assigned five seats by the coalition, which is in power both at the Centre and in the state. The Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha have been assigned one seat each by the NDA. This live blog now stands closed.
